15 Minute Easy Margherita Flatbread Pizza
15 Minute Margherita Flatbread Pizza – delicious, easy recipe for a homemade pizza made with Naan Bread, Fresh Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Garlic, and Basil that’s great for busy weeknight dinners or parties.
With the holidays over, we’re settling in and are actually excited for the hustle and bustle of the holidays to be over. Not having to run to the store frantically looking for gifts for that one person that has everything is actually pretty nice.
Another thing I am kind of done with is cooking elaborate dinners that have fifty-five steps involved. When it’s time to eat I want quick, easy, and delicious and this is where this Easy Margherita Flatbread pizza comes in.
What to make with Naan bread?
The other day my parents were visiting and my mom among other things brought me a bag of naan bread. It’s delicious to eat just toasted, but next day come lunchtime I decided to use it as the base for a flatbread pizza. When time (or willingness) allows I like to make my own crust, but having a pre-made crust that can be loaded with pretty much anything is pretty awesome if you ask me.
The whole process from start to finish doesn’t take more than 15 minutes, and tell me that having l
unch like this ready in 15 minutes is not awesome!
This idea of using fresh Mozzarella, tomatoes & basil is totally inspired by this recipe from NatashasKitchen.com. After eating those canapés at my girlfriends’ get together I might or might’ve not have made them 5 times. The first time I tried them, I felt like the canapés would benefit from a good kick of garlic, so I have made them with garlic each time since then.
What is Margherita Pizza?
As I have later found out, a pizza made with mozzarella, tomatoes, basil & garlic is called Margherita, although a combination of tomato, mozzarella & basil is called Caprese.
So here’s the easiest flatbread pizza you will ever make. I mean, you don’t even have to grate your cheese, how easy is that?
15 minute Margherita Flatbread Pizza
Ingredients for Margherita Flatbread Pizza:
- Use some good quality Naan bread or homemade pita bread for this flatbread pizza. It is the base for the whole thing, so the better quality flatbread, the better the overall pizza will be.
- Fresh mozzarella is the thing to use. I use the one Costco sells as it doesn’t seep too much moisture out when heated in the oven.
- Do not substitute the fresh garlic and basil for dried.
How to make Margherita Flatbread Pizza
1. Press fresh garlic and mix with oil.
2. Brush the flatbread with oil & garlic with half the mixture. Place in preheated to 350F oven for 5-8 minutes or until very crispy.
3. Remove from oven and place 3 slices of cheese on top of the flatbread, sprinkle with salt & pepper, then place thinly sliced tomatoes on top and repeat with a sprinkling of salt & pepper. Place back in the oven for another 5 minutes, plus extra 2-3 minutes on broil. Watch the bread closely, if it’s too dark before 2-3 minutes, remove it from the oven immediately.
4. Meanwhile mix the remaining oil & garlic with the balsamic vinegar, stirring until smooth emulsion forms.
5. Chop the basil leaves.
6. Once flatbread pizza is baked and the edges are golden in color, remove from the oven, drizzle with however much of the balsamic vinegar mixture you would like, sprinkle with basil leaves, slice, serve and enjoy!

Side note: you can freeze your naan bread until you need it, keeping it soft and fresh. When do you see yourself making this easy, peasy, Margherita Flatbread Pizza?
Delicious!! I had to substitute my naan for pita bread and cook for a little bit longer and it still came out very tasty!
This was absolutely delicious! Crisping the naan before adding the mozzarella and tomato and adding the balsamic drizzle at the end made all the difference. I used individual naan and made extra pizzas hoping for leftovers. They’re all gone-
This recipe was delicious. I used a flat bread I purchased from Costco for the base and switched it up and used smoked mozzarella. It was absolutely delicious!
This was SOOOO good!!! I made it with a garlic naan bread, and followed your recipe to a T!!! EXCELLENT!!!
awesome review! Thank you Jennifer!
I plan to try this, thanks. It looks easy and good! But do know when you say “Do not substitute the fresh garlic and basil for dried” you are telling people to use dried garlic and basil. Maybe you mean Do not substitute the fresh garlic and basil with dried.
what the hell are you even talking about right now Kate? It’s been two years. I hope you figured yourself out cuz this shit ain’t it.
I followed your directions on baking times but the naan in the center was soggy when serving it. Probably from the juices from the tomatoes and the balsamic mix. Any suggestions?
I would crisp you the Naan slightly more before adding the tomatoes and the balsamic vinegar.
This was sooo good. But how do you do the emulsion with balsamic, garlic and oil? It doesn’t mix.
If you add all ingredients but the oil and whisk them, then while continuing to whisk fast drizzle in the oil in a slow stream it should come together into an emulsion. Whether it emulsifies or not though does not effect the flavor, so if it doesn’t work it’s not too big of a deal 🙂
I bought naan at my local farmers market yesterday and at the same time was wondering what to do with all of the tomatoes in my garden. This recipe helped with both. Loved it. Thanks so much.
Love hearing that! Thank you for sharing Tammy!
I made this for dinner tonight on home made flat bread, it was delicious! I added chopped mushrooms to the onion and garlic mixture. Served with a green salad, it was a super weekday meal and looked like something from a local restaurant!
Oh that’s so good to hear! Comments like yours totally make my day, thank you for sharing your feedback!
Easy to follow recipe and fun to make. I made a few and served as an app and everyone raved over it! Thank you so much!
Thank you Tori!
Thank you for this pizza recipe. It is my favorite pizza topping!
Authentic Pizza Margherita does NOT have garlic. Nor is it drizzled with balsamic vinegar. I’m sure your creation is great, but it shouldn’t be called Margherita.
Love, love….shared and will make again often! I used flax flatbread (that is what I had) and let it get good and crispy before I added the toppings. After the toppings were added I left it in long enough to crisp it up even more. What a treat!! Love the balsamic topping, too. Next time I’ll try it with naan.
Thanks Marina! Your recipe was my inspiration to making flatbread Margherita! I used a President Choice whole wheat flatbread. (From Canada) let it crisp with olive oil and garlic up as you directed. Added mini bocconcinis (halved), home grown cherry tomatoes, (halved) fresh basil, salt and pep , WOW! FRESH! OMG so, so good! I skipped the balsamic as I am tired of the balsamic glaze touching everything we eat these days!
Thanks for the inspiration! Love your blog!
Wow, your flatbread pizza sounds so good! Thank you for sharing!
I’ll be making this again and again.
This Margherita Flatbread Pizza is off the hook!
Delicious, easy, fast, and better then in any restaurant!
my family loved it!
Loooove the fresh garlic in recipe!
Thank you Marina!
Thank you so much Diana! I’m so happy you loved it!
This is so easy to make AND eat for anyone. I am sure the people who use my site will love this!! Just need my hubby to put in and pull out of oven lol. My twelve year old even liked helping me make the pizza!! Kudos
Thank you Ann for your feedback!
This recipe saved my day. However, I liked trying the pizza with salsa sauce, It was really spicy and easy to make..
Sooo good! I can’t even count how many times I have made this already! Such a hit ! ❤️ Thank you for the recipe:)
Thank you so much for your feedback Iveta!
Just saw this recipe, it looks amazing!
Thank you Natalya!
Very good and easy. I added some pizza sauce and more Italian seasoning.
I love pizza, I try your pizza at home. I like it most, thanks for sharing such a great recipe with us.
This sounds so good. I’ll make it soon. Most recipes list the ingredients in order of being used. This listing of your ingredients made it a little more difficult to copy your recipe into my notebook. Also I think that listing might confuse me when I make the recipe.
Thank you for your creative and healthy recipes.
Thank you Rebecca for your suggestion! I’ll take it into consideration when developing my future recipes!
I don’t like Balsamic Oil I substituted it with Basil Infused Oil..it was terrific.
My husband requests this weekly! Thanks for the yummy recipe. I usually pat the tomatoes and mozzarella dry before sticking them on the naan bread because if not it typically makes the bread soggy and leaves little pools of liquid.. but maybe thats just me 😉 tastes delicious though.
My husband requests this weekly! Thanks for the yummy recipe
This has become a staple for me – so easy and delicious! Thank you for sharing.
This is always a go to quick meal for us. So yummy and easy!!
Easy & delicious. Make this quite often
I don’t usually leave comments but I just wanted to say this is really easy, healthy, and delicious recipe. Our family ate this for dinner and we fell in love! Thank you. God Bless.
I will give it a try
Questions about premade crust:
1. What size naan do you use?
2. What about another type of crust, such as a lavish, or flatbread?
Love your feedback. Thanks.
This is an excellent recipe. The balsamic vinegar really adds something special! I prefer this recipe to most restaurant margherita pizzas I’ve tried! Thanks so much for posting it!
Made this tonight. Easy. Fast. Impressive
This is so good! I made it with a zucchini crust recipe that I have and my husband loves it! We’re having it for the third time tonight!
I love this recipe, but I can never get the crust crispy. It is always soft.
Try mixing just the oil and garlic, without the vinegar, and crisp it up in the oven. Then add the vinegar last when you take it out of the oven with the tomatoes and the cheese. Hope this helps!
Can I use shredded mozarella and whole wheat pizza dough? I have all of the ingredients in the house and don’t feel like running to the grocery store for one thing!
I’ve made this recipe multiple times and it always gets rave reviews! I’ll be making it again this week! Thanks!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
When I was buying the naan, n, I swung by the by the salad bar and grabbed some grilled chicken. It isn’t even that expensive as compared to when you top it on your salad. Four bucks got me plenty of chicken to put on top.
Chicken Naan pizza sounds delicious! Good thinking Edward!
This looks delicious and super easy! My question is (newbie to cooking here) What do you put the pizza on the two times you put it in the oven? A baking pan? nothing? I don’t want to mess up the integrity of the pizza crust.
Thanks for your question! you put it on a baking sheet. Or if you don’t have one, just put some foil underneath.
want to try this recipe. can u use a light layer of tomato sauce or pesto as a base?
Yes you can use both of those, although if you do use the tomato sauce you might want to put less tomatoes on top.
what kind of mozzarella do you recommend? this looks so easy and great, I plan to try it this Friday as a nice quick appetizer before a night out with my girlfriends!
I usually use the fresh Mozzarella. I get mine from Costco. This would be a great appetizer before a night out! Let me know how it all goes 🙂
P.S. You might want to replace the fresh garlic with powdered garlic (about 1/2 – 1 tsp) if you guys are going to go out after eating this lovely flatbread 😀 .
OMG – we LOVE this pizza. We took it as an appetizer to a recent Wine Tasting & it was big hit. We have made it several times since then and will be making it again tomorrow for lunch. It is so flavorful and the presentation is WONDERFUL!!! This has become a favorite “go to” recipe very quickly!!! We used multi-grain flatbread and it was GREAT!!! I have a pic that I would love to post but I don’t see a place to do that…..LOVE this recipe

I made this for dinner on a Monday night when I was tired & hungry … turned out to be a easy, and a huge success! I substituted roasted red peppers for the tomatoes, I love how simple this recipe is!
Thanks for your feedback Emilia! I love the idea of adding roasted red peppers!
I love the idea of this recipe. Beautiful photos.
Wow! This looks phenomenal. I love all these ingredients.
Love your pictures, as always. Pinning!
Thanks you Olga!
Oh my!!!! Purrrfeecttioon. The pictures and the combination!. Love. I’m so doing this but will add chicken to it. My hubs needs that meat.. Thanks for the recipe..:)
Try it with no chicken first. This combination is really perfect and doesn’t need anything else. I never thought it would be as good as it was when I tried it. I shared it with my sisters family and her husband made a personal call to me to tell me how much he didn’t expect to, but loved it!
You are so creative and giiiirl, that looks so so good! Pinning! 🙂
Well I don’t know about creative, but definitely gooood! Thanks Natasha!
LOVE this pizza! So fresh and beautiful. I love using naan bread as pizza bases. Interestingly enough, I find they actually taste a lot like authentic Italian pizza crust and like you said so quick!!
Hey, quick and easy, plus tastes like Italian pizza? Double win!! Thanks Julie!
Can you substitute the mozzarella cheese into cottage cheese?
They’re not similar in texture or flavor, so if you did it wouldn’t taste like it was intended to. So I guess you can put anything you want on it, but it wouldn’t taste the same.
