Fall Apple Drink – Apple Compote

Fall Apple Drink or Apple Compote is a simple, yet satisfying way to enjoy apples! Made with just apples, lemon and sweetener this was our favorite drink growing up.

Hello ya’ll! It’s been a while. You see, I’ve been busy with having a baby, and now taking care of her. It’s the kind of busy that makes you exhausted beyond belief, but also the kind that makes your heart swoon and realize just how amazing and precious the little life is. I’ll have to do a separate post on our new little addition, but for now I’m here to share a simple, delicious Fall Apple Drink that we tend to make with apples any time the apple season hits.

Growing up, my grandma had a little orchard where they grew apples and pears among other things. In the fall, they would make this Apple Drink or Compote (we called it that) and then can it in 3 quart jars, so that come winter we could all enjoy it.

As I mentioned in my previous posts, during pregnancy I had gestational diabetes, so most of the sweets and sugar stuff was off limits, well for the most part. That’s when I started drinking my tea, coffee or any other drinks without any added sugar. When you stay off sugar, your taste buds all of a sudden awaken and become very sensitive to anything sweet, to the point that you notice hints of sugar in stuff that you didn’t before.

Once in a while when I felt like I needed to have my tea to be sweet I would use the little packets of SPLENDA® Naturals Stevia Sweetener. Because you know, when you tell yourself that you can not have something, then all of a sudden you need to have it or you feel like you’re going to die haha! It doesn’t hurt that Splenda Naturals gets its sweetness form Reb D, which means it doesn’t have the bitter aftertaste. Plus, SPLENDA® Brand makes the SPLENDA® Naturals Stevia Sweetener with no added colors, preservatives, and non-GMO ingredients. The result? Great, sweet taste!

Speaking of staying off sugar. SPLENDA® is having a #GoodbyeSugar30 challenge, which challenges you to reduce your sugar intake for 30 days. Not only will you get a chance to spot the added sugar and find ways to limit it but you can also win a spa getaway! SPLENDA® Naturals will provide you with amazing recipes and tips to help you through it, plus you get more chances to win some sweet stuff! Oh, and don’t forget to use the #GoodbyeSugar30 hashtag to let others know how you’re doing!

Here’s how you can take the challenge!

    • 1. Sign up and let your friends and family know about the challenge.
    • 2. Get to know the different sugar terms on ingredients labels.
    • 3. Identify obvious sources of added sugar in your refrigerator, pantry or on your next trip to the supermarket.
    • 4. Watch for places where you have total control over removing added sugar from your foods and drinks.

How to make Apple Drink:

Bring water to a boil.

How to cut apples and peel them with oranges and orange juicer.

Add the apples to the boiling water, juice of 1 orange, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and boil for about 2-3 minutes after the compote comes to a rolling boil.

Turn the heat off and allow the drink to cool. Pour a cupful of liquid into a cup, add enough SPLENDA® Naturals Stevia Sweetener to your drink to make it sweet – about 1 packet is enough for 1 cup.
