Prepare the sauce first.

  • Tomato Sauce
  • 1 medium size onion peeled and diced
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes 300-400 g
  • Parsley
  • Salt
  • Pepper

To fry the Cheese Sticks

  • 1 lb mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • 1 egg
  • Flour
  • Panco Bread Crumbs
  • Garlic Powder
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Salt
  • Pepper

  1. Make the Sauce
  2. Sautee the onion until golden in color, add garlic and the tomatoes. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the extra moisture to evaporate.
  3. Puree with a hand blender. Allow to cool.

Make the Cheesesticks

  1. Turn your deep fryer to 350F.
  2. Mix together, bread crumbs, garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  3. Whisk the egg with a pinch of salt.
  4. Cut the cheese sticks in half.
  5. Dip each cheese stick in egg wash, then dredge in the crumb mixture and set on a baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the cheese sticks.
  6. Freeze for 10-15 minutes (this helps the cheese sticks retain their shape).
  7. Fry in the deep fryer for about a minute, trying not to overcrowd the frying space.
  8. Set on a paper towel, allowing the extra oil to be absorbed.
  9. Alternatively, you can bake the cheese sticks.

To bake:

  1. Follow steps 2-5, then freeze for 30 minutes.
  2. Bake at 400F, for 8-10 minutes. The cheese sticks might loose their shape a little, but that does not affect the taste, so enjoy!
