Can you Bake Mozzarella Sticks?

Yes! With these Mozzarella Sticks you can make them healthier, without sacrificing the flavor. All you have to do is bake them on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake @400F for 6-8 minutes, or until the outside is crispy and the inside is meltyyyy goood!

Substitution for homemade Marinara sauce

If you have a store-bought Marinara Sauce that you particularly like, you can absolutely use it in place of making your own. Although, I vote for homemade 😉

Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Author: Marina | Let the Baking Begin

Ingredients

Prepare the sauce first.

  • 8 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 1 medium size onion , peeled and diced
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 12 oz can of diced tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp Parsley , chopped
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

How to fry the Mozzarella Sticks

  • 1 lb Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • 2 egg
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 2/3 cup Panco Bread Crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper

Instructions

Make the Sauce

  1. Heat skillet over medium heat with 3 tbsp oil, then add diced onions and saute until golden in color. Add crushed garlic, tomato sauce and the tomatoes, then simmer for about 10-15 minutes, reducing the sauce.

  2. Puree with a hand blender. Allow to cool.

How to

  1. Turn your deep fryer to 350F.
  2. Mix together, bread crumbs, garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  3. Whisk the egg with a pinch of salt.
  4. Cut the cheese sticks in half.
  5. Dip each cheese stick in egg wash, then dredge in the crumb mixture and set on a baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the cheese sticks.
  6. Freeze for 10-15 minutes (this helps the cheese sticks retain their shape).
  7. Fry in the deep fryer for about a minute, trying not to overcrowd the frying space.
  8. Set on a paper towel, allowing the extra oil to be absorbed.
  9. Alternatively, you can bake the cheese sticks.

To bake:

  1. Follow steps 2-5, then freeze for 30 minutes.
  2. Bake at 400F, for 8-10 minutes. The cheese sticks might loose their shape a little, but that does not affect the taste, so enjoy!
